Coast Guard officials, along with local law enforcement, are on the Great South Bay searching for a man who went overboard.
The incident took place around 11 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, near Heckscher State Park, said Coast Guard spokesman Petty Officer Hunter Medley.
The man, who was aboard a 34-foot boat with two women, went overboard without a life jacket and never resurfaced. The women, who could not operate the boat, called for help.
Suffolk County Police Department marine bureau and aviation section officers responded to search for the victim, along with the Coast Guard who sent a boat from Fire Island, Medley said.
A helicopter from Cape Cod made a pass over the area at first light to help search for the missing 47-year-old man, officials said.
Medley said that as of 9:30 a.m., the man, who was wearing a blue shirt and shorts, had not been located.
